The financial statements contained in this Report have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act 2006 and with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as adopted by the European Union. In all cases, royalty payments in kind are deducted from the Shell share.
In the case of joint ventures and associates, however, Shell-share figures are limited only to Shell’s entitlement. All of a subsidiary’s share of production, processing or sales volumes are included in the Shell share, even if Shell owns less than 100% of the subsidiary. However, the term “Shell share” is used for convenience to refer to the volumes of hydrocarbons that are produced, processed or sold through subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates. The term “Shell interest” is used for convenience to indicate the direct and/or indirect ownership interest held by Shell in a venture, partnership or company, after exclusion of all third-party interests.Įxcept as otherwise specified, the figures shown in the tables in this Report are in respect of subsidiaries only, without deduction of any non-controlling interest. Companies over which Shell has joint control are generally referred to as “joint ventures” and companies over which Shell has significant influence but neither control nor joint control are referred to as “associates”. The Consolidated Financial Statements consolidate the financial statements of the Company and all subsidiaries. “Subsidiaries” and “Shell subsidiaries” as used in this Report refer to companies over which the Company, either directly or indirectly, has control through exposure or rights to their variable returns and the ability to affect those returns through its power over the companies. These expressions are also used where no useful purpose is served by identifying the particular company or companies.
Likewise, the words “we”, “us” and “our” are also used to refer to subsidiaries in general or to those who work for them. In this Report “Shell” is sometimes used for convenience where references are made to the Company and its subsidiaries in general.
